SERRAMONTE CENTER SUPPLEMENTS FUNDING FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

FIELD TRIPS WITH 8TH ANNUAL “SHOPPING…IT’S A TRIP” PROGRAM

Much Needed Funding Helps Keep Field Trips Alive at Local Schools

Daly City
, Calif. – (February 22, 2009) Several local elementary schools will receive all-expense-paid field trips to off-set ever decreasing state funding for educational outings, thanks to Shopping…It’s a Trip, a generous program offered by Serramonte Center designed to assist funding school field trips hit hard by budget cuts. Winning schools were awarded trips to a number of local educational destinations such as the San Francisco Zoo, Exploratorium, Aquarium of the Bay and more. Each participating school received an award at the end of the year based on its total points earned. The funding covers admission and transportation for up to 200 students per school.

This year’s winning schools include:

Ponderosa Elementary School – South San Francisco

Monte Verde Elementary School – San Bruno

Skyline Elementary School – Daly City

Sunset Ridge Elementary School – Pacifica

Junipero Serra Elementary School – Daly City

Schools received five points for every dollar spent by parents, friends, supporters or students at Serramonte from August 1, 2008 through January 31, 2009. Customers simply presented receipts from purchases at the Serramonte Information Center and indicated which school they’d like to be credited. Additional points were earned through other (non-spending) means such as attending special Serramonte events, school spirit activities and more.

“Serramonte began this successful program in 2000 and we have been able to partner with some great educational destinations to give the out-of-classroom field trip experience back to students in these tough times budget-wise for schools,” said Serramonte Center General Manager Dick Bartlett. “We are very proud that to date this unique program has funded field trips to more than 7,000 local elementary school children in our community.”
